Say it ain’t so! We can’t believe heaven would be so cruel, but why risk it? Pour yourself a cold one and toast a day well-lived in style. The Betz Beer T-shirt reminds us to live it up while we can!
German-born John Betz emigrated to the US at a young age and developed a taste for IPAs. Working most of his life in brewing (learning from D.G. Yuengling, himself!), Betz bought out one of his employers to start his own brewery in 1880.
Philadelphia really took to his melting-pot selection of sailor-grade IPAs, ale, porter and a lager that was hailed to be as good as any Bavarian import. Like many other breweries of the era, Betz Beer was crippled by Prohibition and eventually closed its doors in 1939.
Brewers like Betz paved the way for IPAs to make their way into mainstream culture – though it took a few decades to really perfect the new flavors we’ve come to know and love today. But at RBN, we like to remember where we came from, so we couldn’t resist adding this oldy-but-goody to our Fall Collection.
